Eat to Live

This is our vegan cooking and cultural connectivity class. Many melanated people come from culture’s who produced sustainable food practices. Unfortunately, colonialism and other social factors have caused large groups of melanated people to eat artificial diets made up of processed foods designed to keep us reliant economically while making us sick. Food is a language of all cultures, yet many of us have become illiterate in our own culture’s culinary origins. This class helps students to reconnect with the foods of their history in a healthy, sustainable way. We take classic dishes from all over the African, Latin, Caribbean and Polynesian diasporas and make them vegetarian, vegan and delicious. Students will make connections as old cuisines and traditions will become familiar to students who will be presented with various new knowledge sets and practical skills that have been passed down from these cultures.
